Sugi 杉 — Japanese Cedar Beams
JAS-Engineered Timber | Solid, Slow Kiln-Dried, Authentic | Square or Rectanlge

Structural Authenticity Verified by Engineering Data
Most engineered timber products deliver structural performance through lamination and bonding. Our sugi beams deliver it differently: through solid timber, slow kiln-drying, and adherence to JAS (Japanese Architectural Standards); the Japanese government's official standard for structural timber performance.
Sugi's structural character is defined by its consistent straight grain, its natural rot resistance, and the reddish-brown heartwood that deepens with exposure. At 368 kg/m³ average dried weight, it is lighter than most hardwoods while carrying genuine structural credentials. The beams are solid — not laminated, not finger-jointed — and engineered to verifiable JAS standards with full documentation available for structural sign-off.
Slow kiln-drying is the critical difference from standard KD timber. The extended drying cycle minimises internal stress, reduces movement after installation, and produces a beam that behaves predictably in exposed applications — indoor or out.
