Boxed Yakisugi (Shou Sugi Ban)
Charred Japanese Cedar | Four Finishes | Ready to Distribute or Install

A Thousand-Year Tradition, Now a Global Movement
Yakisugi is one of Japan's oldest exterior building materials. For over a thousand years, Japanese builders have deliberatly charred the surface of Japanese Cedar to produce cladding that resists fire, pests, and weathering without chemical treatment.
Sugi is the traditional substrate because its grain density, resin chemistry, and tannin content respond to the three-pass burn in a way that produces a stable, deeply textured char layer. Its surface is proven across centuries of Japanese exterior use in coastal, mountain, and urban environments alike.
These days, Yakisugi demand is soaring in international architecture and design markets, where it is widely referred to as Shou Sugi Ban. It's prized it for its distinctive aesthetic, low-maintenance performance, and the authenticity of a material with a documented history.
Our yakisugi is produced in Japan from Sugi using the traditional process, then finished and boxed in four surface variations. All four use the same authentic base product. The finish determines the aesthetic and coating system, not the underlying material.
Our Four Yaiksugi Finishes
All four finishes are authentic charred Sugi boards with a shiplap profile, 11 mm thick, covering 6.612 m² per pack. Colour and grain vary naturally from samples. Stock subject to availability.
